CAPE CORAL, Fla. – A man was arrested in Cape Coral after fleeing from police at over 100 mph on Monday night.
According to the Cape Coral Police Department, Joseph Michael Patrick Ciccarelli, 36, was recklessly driving a blue Jeep Wrangler.
Around 10:28 p.m., officer radar caught the car going 80 mph in a 40 mph zone and nearly crashing into another car.
When the officer attempted a traffic stop, the car continued to drive.
Officials say Ciccarelli drove through a red light and tried to evade police by changing lanes, driving around other cars and violating traffic laws.
The release also states that Ciccarelli was in a crash earlier that night in the same car.
The officer disengaged the traffic stop due to the high safety risk, and the car continued to reach speeds of over 100 mph.
An investigation revealed that the car belonged to Ciccarelli.
Ciccarelli was located nearby and taken to the Lee County Jail.
He faces charges of failing to stop for law enforcement and fleeing at high speeds.
