UPDATE: PUNTA GORDA, Fla. — Fire crews returned to the house on Pepper Road after neighbors reported hearing several booms in the area.

According to Charlotte County Public Safety, neighbors said they saw smoke and flames.

Crews were on the scene battling the flames and hotspots at approximately 6:15 PM Tuesday.

Charlotte County Public Safety said two people and a dog were able to escape the home on Monday after a fire spread from the porch and up to the attic.

ORIGINAL STORY: PUNTA GORDA, Fla. — Two people and their dog had a close encounter with a fire that spread from the porch of their Punta Gorda home and up to their attic.

According to Charlotte County Public Safety, the fire started around 3 PM on Pepper Road in south Punta Gorda. Crews found fire on the porch, which spread up along the home’s outside wall and into the attic.

Officials said the three occupants were outside and uninjured when crews arrived.

Charlotte County Public Safety said the home is inhabitable until repairs can be made due to the fire in the attic.

Fire officials are investigating the cause of the fire.
