FORT MYERS, Fla. — A Fort Myers man was sentenced to 30 years in prison, followed by ten years of probation for two counts of kidnapping and possession of a firearm.
Therbert Tyrone Sweet was found guilty after a two-day trial in February, according to the State Attorney’s Office. During a break in the trial, Sweet, who was not in custody, left the courtroom and did not return.

A bench warrant was issued for his arrest. Sweet was found in Manatee County and brought back to Lee County.
According to the SAO, the case involves a crime that occurred February 12, 2021.
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office received an anonymous call about two people being held hostage at a home in Bonita Springs. Deputies immediately responded to the scene and found that there were two victims inside.
Both had been meeting up with some people at the home in the San Carlos Park area when they were attacked and abducted.

The two victims were brought to the home in Bonita Springs and left on the floor of a garage until deputies arrived.
A search warrant was served at the location, and evidence was recovered supporting the story told by the victims.
