Welcome To Fort Myers Beach

On Estero Island, Florida

LEE COUNTY, Fla.– Norbert Krass is a Marine Veteran who served in World War 2. He also survived the Covid-19 pandemic and Hurricane Ian.

“There was a lot of people who helped one another in Covid,” said Norbert.

Dennis Krass is Norbert’s son. He said his dad’s assisted living facility was damaged during Hurricane Ian.

“They had to evacuate. So, he was out for fishing don’t know how long, I think it was like two weeks before he was able to get back in here to Brookdale,” said Dennis.

Norbert’s family threw him this surprise party at Brookdale Assisted Living in Fort Myers to celebrate his 100th birthday.

They even fitted his marine uniform, so he could celebrate in style.

“We surprised him, so we had to get him dressed in his uniform, not knowing what he was going to do, and he kept wanting to say why am I doing this, and we go ‘oh we want to get some pictures of you dad’,” exclaimed Dennis.

Norbert served in Hawaii, making crucial steps in winning the war.

Norbert said, “All of our forces were used down getting one island after another island. The last I remember was Saipan and Tinian, which we took so our planes didn’t have to return to their hangers to refuel.”

Dennis added, “Which were the two critical islands on order for the United States to eventually end the war through the bombs that they dropped.”

Norbert was thrilled to see everyone show up for him.

“I just can’t imagine all these people coming to see me,” Norbert laughed.

Norbert turns 100 years old on March 29th.
