CAPE CORAL, Fla. – A car drove into a canal in Cape Coral on Saturday morning with one victim trapped inside.

Around 5:30 a.m., a car was found submerged in water at NE 9th Ave. and NE 12th St., according to the Cape Coral Fire Department (CCFD).

A firefighter swam out to the sunken car, and a life hammer was used to break the car window.

With help from the Cape Coral Police Department, the victim was pulled from underwater and taken to shore.

The victim was placed into an ambulance, where they regained consciousness and began breathing.

CCFD divers cleared the car of any other passengers and the canal of any more possible victims.
