CAPE CORAL, Fla. — A woman was booked into the Lee County Jail and is facing DUI arrest charges after she drove her car into a Cape Coral canal.

Cape Coral Police said Flabia Parades drove her car into a canal on NE 9th Street early Saturday morning.

The Cape Coral Fire Department, Cape Coral Police Department, and Lee County Public Safety responded. They found Parades submerged in her car.

Cape Coral firefighter Kyle Mann was able to save her life, using a life hammer to break her car window and pull her to shore.

Parades regained consciousness and was placed into an ambulance and taken to a hospital. She was taken to the jail on Sunday afternoon.

NBC2 spoke to her neighbors, who said the entry to the canal is steep, and she’s lucky to be alive.

Cape Coral resident Robert Davis said, “It’s like a cliff face. I mean, it could’ve been, gosh. It could’ve been deadly. I just hope they’re ok… sometimes life’s hard, but God is good.”

“It sounds terrible, but I’m thankful the canal was there because if not, there’s nothing on this side. She would’ve ran into our house,” said Cape Coral resident Miranda Newsome.

NBC2 also spoke to Percedes’ fiancé. He said he knew about the crash and was calling every hospital and jail. He finally found her booking report on Sunday afternoon. He said he was relieved she was alive but very sad that this happened.
